Abstract

During the eighteenth and nineteenth century many expeditions were launched into remote areas of Asia to discover and collect ‘useful’ plants. The exploration of the plant was much contributed by Rumphius, a botanist from Netherlands, an employee of the Dutch East India Company (VOC) who spent most of his life documenting the properties and uses of the plants of Ambon. In fact, some species are alien species which can give significantly economic benefits and positive contributions for the welfare of the community. One of them as medicinal plants. This paper discusses the alien species that are written in Herbarium Amboinense which used as medicine and seen through the historical perspective.
