Abstract

Malang Raya is one of regions in East Java which has various potential plants. The diversity of ferns in Malang Raya is high, however, its usage by local citizens is still low. Some ferns like Adiantum, Drymoglossum and Selaginella have benefits both in medical and non medical aspect. In medical aspect, Adiantum, Drymoglossum and Selaginella can be used as medicine for heatiness, cancer and wound after giving birth, respectively. The exploration of these three genus in Malang Raya whose height ranges between 460-1,650 m asl is conducted to find out the species diversity and its spread based on its altitude. There are 11 species of Adiantum, two species of Drymoglossum and six species of Selaginella. For Adiantum the higher its habitat, the richer its diversity, however, above 1,500 m asl the diversity decreases. Drymoglossum is only found on 460-530 m asl. For Selaginella its highest diversity is on 1,650 m asl and its lowest is on 460 and 1,320 m asl. Selaginella subalpina is only found on 460 and 530 m asl.
