Abstract
Study on phenetic analysis to determine the relationship of nine varieties of potato (Solanum tuberosum L.) was conducted based on 27 morphological characters, including organ stems, leaves, and tubers. The characters observed were scored, and further analyzed based on UPGMA method. The results showed a high diversity of morphological characters, of which 20 characters were significantly different across the varieties. The phenogram indicated that the nine varieties of potato were classified into three main groups. The first group was consisted of varieties of Cipanas, Granola, Atlantic, and Repita. The second group was housed of varieties of Manohara and GM 05. The third group was composed of varieties Margahayu, Mb 17, and Maglia. The cultivar of Manohara and GM-05 has the closest relationship, whereas varieties of Repita and Margahayu were the most distant. This pattern of relationships can be used as one of the basis in the process of crossbreeding to assemble the new varieties. Morever, the crossbreeding will be better if it is made between distantly related varieties.
