Abstract
Leaf-eating monkey is a primate protected by both the Indonesian State Law and International Agencies. They are distributed in various conservation and non-conservation areas in Indonesia. This research was conducted to determine the population and habitat of leaf-eating monkeys in Gunung Tilu, Kuningan District, West Java. Line transect was used for the population estimation, whereas sample plot was to determine vegetation structure. This study found 379 leaf-eating monkeys from 40 groups consisting of langurs (Trachypithecus auratus) and surili (Presbytis comata) with an average group size of 9.53 individuals per group, and an average density of 2.43 individuals/ha. The lowland forest ecosystem, with steep and very steep slope classes, had a diversity index value of 4.33. The dominant plant at the pole stage was tundun (Harpalia cupanoides Roxb.), and for the tree stage was kijungil (Celtis tetrandra Roxb.). The potential plants for leaf-eating monkey feed included leaves that were consumed for 24.69 tons and the fruit portion for 39.80 tons.
