Abstract
The Cempedik, considered as an endemic fish, is a freshwater species inhabit Belitung Island, especially East Belitung Regency. The morphological characteristics of the fish are needed to describe the fish phenotypic character. This study aimed to describe the morphological characteristics of Cempedik fish from Belitung Island. The fish had a flat body shape, terminal mouth type, two pairs of hair shaped barbs, a perfect lateral line, silvery scales, a single curved caudal fin shape, abdominal ventral fin type, and a dorsal fin. The fin formula of collected Cempedik fish from East Belitung Regency was D.3–11, A.3–5, P.I.12, V.I.8 with a basic dorsal fin of 0.8–1.4 cm long, whereas those from Belitung Regency was D.3.12–18, A.3–5, P.I.13–15, V.I.8 with dorsal fin of 1.9 cm long. The morphological characteristics of Cempedik fish from Belitung Island demonstrated a similarity with Osteochilus spilurus of Indonesian Institute of Sciences (LIPI)’ collection which was grouped into Family Cyprinidae and Genus Osteochilus.
