Abstract

Indonesia is one of the richest countries in biodiversity over the world.  It is also the country with the highest destruction of its forests. Forest area continues to decline due to fires, land conversion, and illegal logging. Today, Indonesia has lost over 80% of its forests.  Many unique plants are threatened with extinction, not only wild plants but also cultivated plants that have high economic potential. In preserving plants, cultivars cannot be ignored, because cultivars can be used directly for life. The question is how far the diversity decline in cultivated plants in comparison with the wild ones. The study showed that the diversity of both wild and cultivated plants were threatened to be extinct.
