Abstract


Silver barb (Barbonymus gonionotus) is one of fish species with no sexual dimorphism. The study regarding sexual dimorphism with truss morphometric technique in Silver barb is lacking. This technique has been recognized to be able to distinguish male from female fish for those having no sexual dimorphism. Thus, it was necessary to conduct a study to distinguish male from female fish according to the technique. The sampled fish were collected by purposive random sampling from the upstream, middle and downstream areas of the River Klawing. The parameters measured were the truss morphometrics distance, and the total length of individual fish to calculate the truss morphometric ratio distance for each fish sex. To compare the truss morphometric ratio distance between male and female,  t-test was applied. The results showed that the truss morphometrics distance between male and female was characterized by fish head, body, and tail. In general, male fish have a more elongated body size than female fish.
