International Conference of Mangroves and Its Related Ecosystems

Coastal areas in tropical countries have a high natural resource potential reflected by its biodiversity and endemicity. Mangrove as one of potential coastal ecosystems provides many valuable processes that ensure availability of goods, and services of provisioning, regulating, supporting, cultural. More than a third of the mangrove area has been lost due to the conversion and over-exploitation in the past three decades. The threats to this precious resource, especially those that have not been explored, will impact ecosystem functions and services.

The global climate change accelerated by human intervention in the natural environment such as over-exploitation of biological resources, an introduction of foreign species, and habitat conversion causes coastal biological resources to be at risk of extinction. With their expertise, scientists can develop research to explore available biological resources, including biotechnology for multiple purposes, i.e., to preserve biodiversity while utilizing it for human welfare.

Therefore, an international joint forum is needed in which research and up-to-date information on mangrove and its related ecosystems, as well as their management, can be shared and reviewed.

  • International Conference of Mangroves and Its Related Ecosystems 2019

    December 21, 2019 – December 23, 2019

Establishing and Managing Mangrove Databases for Maintaining Its Ecosystem Services and Resources

    August, 21-23 2019

ICoMIRE 2019 facilitates scientists who interested in mangrove and its related ecosystems to discuss their findings on biological resources, including biotechnology for multiple purposes, i.e., to preserve biodiversity while utilizing it for human welfare. It is also a forum to create or strengthen the networks among the scientists, build up partnerships and exchange ideas with both government and a variety of experienced researchers, practitioners, research institutes, and academia. We accommodate four symposia covering 1) Mangrove Ecosystem Health, 2) Mangrove Ecosystem Management, 3) Recent Approach to Mangrove Monitoring, and 4) Mangrove Interrelated system. The conference program will be preceded by workshops and field trip to the mangrove ecosystem, and also the first congress of establishment Indonesian Mangrove Society.

Workshop on Ecological Data Analysis using PRIMER

    August, 19-20 2019

A workshop rising a portrait of Indonesian conservation efforts and rehabilitation will open the conference event series. Five distinguished key-presenters of Ministry of Environment and Forestry, Coordinating Ministry of Maritime Affairs, Universitas Jenderal Soedirman, and wetland Indonesia will deliver topics covering rehabilitation policy, recovery acceleration, mangrove research, conservation policy, and best practices. This will fill us the latest issues of mangroves.

If you want to update your data analysis skill, a workshop on Ecological Data Analysis is available. The tutor(s) will help you to get familiar with multivariate data analysis using Primer v7 software.

SEA+ Conference on Biodiversity and Biotechnology

The Southeast Asian region covering Sundaland, Wallacea, Philippines, and Indo-Burma is unusually high in biodiversity and endemicity. Areas with pristine environments as well as cities hold an enormous potential of undiscovered species. Valuable resources which have yet to be explored from the area provide an ecosystem function and services to support human welfare. One such resource is the peatlands found in nearly all countries across Southeast Asia.

Global climate change that is able to cause the extinction of biological resources is accelerated by human impact, which includes excessive exploitation of biological resources, an introduction of foreign species, and habitat conversions. An ecosystem sensitive to conversion is peatlands.

With their expertise, scientists can develop research projects to explore biological resources available through biotechnology in maintaining biodiversity while utilizing it for human welfare.

  • The SEA+ Conference on Biodiversity and Biotechnology 2018

    November 5, 2018 – November 7, 2018

Bridging SEA Scientists in Managing Peatland and Biodiversity through Biotechnology

SEACoBB provides a forum for scientists who interested in biodiversity and biotechnology to discuss their findings for maintaining sustainable environments. It is also a forum to create or strengthen the networks among the scientists. We accommodate four symposia covering 1) Peatland: recent status and future management, 2) Biotechnology: the use of bioresources and securing biodiversity, 3) Ecosystem health in support of sustainable ecosystem services, and 4) Discovery of biodiversity and their evolution in a degraded ecosystem.

Graduate Research Conference in Biology

Venue : Fakultas Biologi, Universitas Jenderal Soedirman, Purwokerto

Date : 28-29 November 2015

Graduate Research Conference in Biology (GRCB) has a goal to involve graduate students in thinking and dialogue about research and education to contribute to life sciences advancement in Indonesia. This conference encourages students to present their master or doctoral thesis research, to share ideas, and to provide constructive feedbacks on their current works. This year the conference will take place in Fakultas Biologi, Universitas Jenderal Soedirman, Purwokerto and is hosted by the Master Program in Biology. Organized mostly by the graduate student committee, GRCB welcomes graduate students from all Indonesian institutions.

This conference will be a gathering of graduate students on all topics related to life sciences including general biology, applied biology, and education. Likewise, the conference will provide the students the opportunity to exchange research experience, and to build national connections.

GRCB invites you, graduate students including fresh graduated masters and doctors, to attend or to present your work and to bring your research experience to this exciting event.

5th International Conference on Plant Diversity

Venue : Graha Widyatama, Universitas Jenderal Soedirman, Purwokerto

Date : 20-21 August 2015

Plant diversity is one of the international concern due to the rapid extinction especially in Indonesia and its vicinity. Indonesia is the second richest in terms of plant diversity in the world, however the threat is also the highest especially land conversion, illegal logging, and fires. Plant diversity the degree of variation of plants in different ecosystems. This can refer to species variation and genetic variation. Efforts should be made to save this variation by increasing number of information through conferences. The exceeding use of rare plants is also a global concern. Conservation biology is a great challenge. No country in the world can overcome the loss of biodiversity alone. Without international collaboration, biodiversity loss can occure everywhere. A tropical country like Indonesia will suffer from the damage and biodiversity extinction.

Rationale : Researchers are expected to disseminate the results of their research to the wider community. One important step in the process of publication is the dissemination of research results through ther international conferences. The international conference of plant diversity will be conducted at Fakultas Biologi, Universitas Jenderal Soedirman is the result and agreement between the International Seminar team at Brawijaya University in 2013 with representatives of Unsoed Purwokerto.

The scope of the conference will include:

  1. Diversity, structure & development, dendrology
  2. Ecology, conservation, vegetation dynamic, climate change
  3. Molecular Systematics, evolution, bioinformatics, barcoding, genetic engineering
  4. Plant sustainable use, medicinal plants, ethnobotany

Theme : Plant Diversity: A Global Challenge.

Aim : Information exchange on plant diversity and its development, research collaboration and publication.

Outcome : Increasing papers published in international journal.
